MY STORY

I was a heartbroken single mum with a 20-week-old baby.

It was the day before Valentine’s Day when one conversation changed the future I thought I knew.

Suddenly, I was facing divorce, single motherhood and a life I hadn’t planned for.

The advice was familiar: give it time, keep busy, move on.

With a small baby, keeping busy wasn’t the difficult bit. Switching him off in my head was another matter.

I could be pushing the pram around the supermarket while having an entire imaginary argument with him. He wasn’t there, yet somehow he still had the remote control for my emotions.

And because we shared a baby, “just block him” wasn’t an answer.

What I wish I’d understood then.

I’m Jo, a Breakup Coach and NLP Hypnotherapist. Seventeen years in private practice and more than 1,000 women later, I understand something I didn’t have words for back then:

The relationship can be over while the emotional bond is still very much alive.

The checking, rereading and imaginary conversations can keep drawing you back. I call these little habits bond feeders, and recognising them is part of the work I call Unbonding.

For women who still need contact, there’s Calm-Contact too.

Because discussing the PE kit shouldn’t cost you the rest of your afternoon.

There’s more ahead than feeling a little less heartbroken.

I’ve seen women move from questioning their worth to trusting themselves. From organising life around their ex to making plans that excite them.

That’s why I created Breakup Genie, to bring what I’ve learned into practical tools and programmes for more women.

Imagine feeling so at home in yourself that what he does next stops deciding how you feel about your life.

You don’t have to picture that whole future yet. Let’s start with what’s keeping you stuck today.
